Falco – eine österreichische Legende…

Am 19. Februar 1957 erblickte Johann „Hansi“ Hölzel das Licht der Welt – „Into the light“.

Schon früh zeigte sich sein musikalisches Talent und absolutes Gehör.

1977 beschloss er seinen neuen Künstlernamen: FALCO. Ab 1980 startete Falco seinen einzigartigen Eroberungszug der internationalen Musikwelt.

Mit „Rock me Amadeus“ – der Geschichte seines genialen Vorgängers – Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – war Falco im Juli 1985 – also genau vor 20 Jahren – die Nr. 1 der Hitparaden – und im März 1986 hatte er es auch in den USA geschafft.

Aber er hatte nicht nur Erfolge. Er polarisierte die Medien –  und wurde nicht nur einmal boykottiert (wie z.B. mit Jeanny). Von 1987 bis 1992 hatte er eine Durststrecke, die ihn auch persönlich mit Selbstzweifeln zerfraß. Aber er stand wieder auf – der Falke. Ausgerechnet der Untergang der Titanic brachte ihn wieder an die Spitze der Charts zurück.

Am 6. Februar 1998 verunglückte Österreichs größter Popkünstler in der Dominikanischen Republik tödlich.

Mit „Out of the Dark“ flog der Falke in schwindelnde Höhen – seine Todesahnung wurde sein größter Erfolg…

Falco’s „Sound of Musik“ wird weiterleben. Danke Falco – vivat Austria.

Falco – an Austrian Legend…

On February 19 in 1957 Johann „Hansi“ Hölzel saw the light of day – „Into the light“.

Very soon his musical talent and absolute pitch were recognized.

In 1977 he chose his new stage name: FALCO. From 1980 on Falco started his unique conquest of the international world of music.

With “Rock me Amadeus” – the story of his ingenius ancestor – Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – Falco became No. 1 of the charts – in fact 20 years ago. In March 1986 he had finally made it even in the United States.

But he wasn’t successful all the time. He polarized the media – and had been boycotted not only once (for example with “Jeanny”). From 1987 until 1992 he had a dryspell and was afflicted by self-doubt. But he rose again – like a falcon. Of all things the doom of the Titanic brought him back into the charts.

On February 6 in 1998 Austria’s biggest pop artist was killed in an accident in the Dominican Republic.

With “Out of the Dark” the falcon flew sky-high – his presentiment of death became his greatest success...

Falco’s “Sound of Music” will live forever. Thank you, Falco – vivat Austria.
